“Nosedive” is the first episode of the third season of the British series Black Mirror. The starring actress, Bryce Dallas Howard, is not famous, at least I have never seen her before in other films or series.
The main character is a young girl called Lacie, who lives in a world that is dominated by social networks. Specifically, one where you can rate people from 1 to 5 in order to evaluate their behaviour and the perception you receive from them. In addition, you can post pictures and comment them. Lacie has 4.2 points out of 5 and she wants to improve that classification. Consequently, she tries desperately to get along with everyone to raise her grade being excessively kind. Time later, she receives an invitation from a childhood friend, who is going to celebrate her wedding, and she accepts to improve her 4.2. Due to some difficulties, her rating falls below one and she ends in prison.
On the one hand, what I loved the most is that this episode is a truly representation of the society nowadays. They give their perspective from a critical point of view trying to concern us about the influence that social networks have in our lives.
On the other hand, if I had to think about something I disliked, it would be the repetition of the facts and the evaluation of every single thing in the episode.
Having all the previous in mind, I certainly wouldn’t recommend it because, to me, it was predictable what was going to happen. Give it a miss!
